Introducing new pets to resident pets

General guidelines

Please call and stop by for more detailed information. Be sure to mention at your first visit that you are introducing a new pet to resident pets. We have excellent handouts and experienced doctors and technicians to guide you.

  1. Take your time. Gradually introduce the new pet.
  2. Spend extra quality time alone with each pet during the transition.
  3. Watch for impending fights. A smaller pet is in more danger from injury by a larger pet than the reverse. A dog is more likely to severely injure a cat than the reverse with the exception of eye injuries.
  4. Give a frightened animal an avenue of escape.
  5. Consider your own safety before interfering with aroused or fighting animals.
